SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy L. Owens, 57, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010, at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family and friends present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Dorothy was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Earl and Mary (Meier) Norman. She attended school in Dallas and later took a pre-veterinarian course in Dallas. Dorothy worked at Sears in the mail order department and later for Horchow Collections in Dallas.

On Aug. 14, 1980, she was united in marriage to Tommy Owens in Rockwell, Texas. They moved to Sioux City in 1989. She worked for a time at Turpak Inc.

Dorothy was an animal lover. She took in stray animals and was known to take stray, injured or sick animals to the vet for care. She also enjoyed reading books, sewing and working with leather. She was a talented amateur artist and loved to do drawings.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Tommy; one son, Geoff Owens of Sioux City; one daughter, Elise Cardwell of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Michaelle, Piper, Alexandra and Andrew; and one brother, William Norman of DeSoto, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Michael Lyons.
