..SIOUX CITY -- Armond C. Benjamin, 65, of Sioux City passed away Monday, July 26, 2010, at a local hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Oliver officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Waterbury Funeral Service.

Armond was born on Jan. 17, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Roland and Darlene (DeForrest) Benjamin. From a young age, he was raised by his grandparents, Charles and Agnes DeForrest.

Armond was united in marriage with Linda Mae Petersen on April 20, 1968, in Elk Point, S.D. He faithfully served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in Germany from 1965 to 1967. He worked for the city of Sioux City in the Parks and Recreation Department part-time, until his retirement due to health.

Armond enjoyed spending time with his family and especially the time he spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, watching television, classic cars and was an avid reader of American History books.

Armond will be missed by his family which includes his wife, Linda Mae Benjamin; his mother, Darlene Bursell; his three sons, Charles and his wife, Micki, Brian and his wife, Jen and James and his wife, Catherine; his daughter, Kim and her husband, Daniel DeLosantos, all of Sioux City; two brothers, Raymond Bursell and Edward Bursell; three sisters, Caroline Nelson, Ardis Bosteder and Mary Hauger; and 12 grandchildren.

Armond was preceded in death by his father, Roland; his sister, Pat; grandson, Christian; brother, Kenneth Bursell; and his grandparents, Charles and Agnes DeForrest.
