HORNICK, Iowa -- Vera E. Cox, 93, of Hornick died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Hornick, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Vera was born on Jan. 29, 1917, in Smithland, Iowa, to Fred and Nellie (Radar) Lulow. She was raised in Smithland and graduated from Smithland High School in 1934.

On Dec. 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to Mervin H. Cox and for the next 40 years, they lived and farmed south of Hornick where they raised their four sons. Upon Mervin’s passing in 1975, Vera moved to Hornick.

She was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church and the Hornick Library Club. Vera loved to read and passed this on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Ed Cox of Des Moines and Aaron Cox and his wife, Linda of Salix, Iowa; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin, two sons, Alan in 2007, and Barry in 2010; an infant sister; and her only brother, Cecil Lulow in 2009.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Hornick United Methodist Church.
