SIOUX CITY -- Virginia Verdelle Adams, 80, of Hastings, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings, with the Rev. Dominic Phan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Hastings. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.lbvfh.com.

Virginia was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Hendricks, Minn., to John Tom and Nora Lillian (Selleck) Lang. In 1944, she moved to Sioux City, where she graduated from high school.

On Aug. 28, 1948, she married Clarence "Curly" Adams at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponca, Neb. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2008. They raised three children. She was an active partner with her husband in the Tea Pot Dome Tavern in Pierce, Neb., for several years before moving to Grand Island, Neb., for her husband's job. While living in Grand Island, she worked as a cashier at Skagway for several years, then worked at the senior high school in the cafeteria program. She and her husband moved to Hastings in 2000, where they both lived at home until their deaths.

She was involved with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H programs with her children. She was awarded the Mother of the Year for Nebraska in 1969. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in.

Survivors include a son, Rodney E. Adams of Missouri; daughters and spouses, LeEtta and Tom Sherlock of Dakota City and Madjil and James Clark of Hastings; grandchildren and spouses, Anthony and Danielle Clark, Daniel T. Clark, Patricia Schopp, Cynthia A. Schopp, Ginny M. Clark, Clyde A. Clark; great-grandchildren, Trey K. Clark, Logan A. Clark and Leighton Clark; sisters and spouses, Donna Tanner of Minneapolis and Myrtle and Henry Schutte of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Adams; an infant daughter, MaryAnn Elizabeth Adams; brothers, Ira Lang, Howard Lang, Vernon Lang, Virgil Lang, Vinal Lang and Roy Lang; sisters, Faye Martinez, Lola Pickens and Mary B. Adams; and a grandson, Joseph P. Clark.

Memorials may be given to the family. A memorial will be established at a later date.
