SIOUX CITY -- James "Jim" A. Weidenfeller of Richardson, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2010, with his family and St Paul’s Father Flori at his side.

Memorial services were held June 28 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Richardson, Texas.

Jim was born May 28, 1933, in Sioux City. He attended Heelan High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Houston and worked with several high-tech companies before retiring from Nortel after more than 20 years. During his career, he traveled through the U.S. and beyond, including the Middle East and in retirement continued his travels with his wife, Marcia.

He was active in the St. Paul Catholic Church community through coaching various grade school athletic teams, including the always dominant Sunbeams girls’ soccer team. He remained active with St. Paul's Catholic Church through the Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, ushering, volunteering at the school and was a founding member of the infamous Blitz group. During retirement, Jim also spent his time reading, taking college classes, working crossword puzzles, bowling and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include Marcia, his loving wife of over 50 years; son, Scott and wife, Annette of Richardson, Texas, son, Bob and wife, Catherine of Germantown, Md., daughter, Wendy of Dickson, Tenn., and son John of Richardson; grandchildren, Kristen, James, Jack, Brooke, and coming soon ‘hey’ Jude; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made to the Jim Weidenfeller St. Paul Catholic Church School Scholarship Fund, 709 James Dr., Richardson, TX 75080 or Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, Sioux City.

The family would like to thank all the caring friends in his life, especially the physicians and staff at Methodist Richardson Hospital for their exceptional care. Jim was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
