SIOUX CITY -- Elna L. Ruring, 86, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Elna was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Spencer, Iowa, to John and Freida (Rossow) Christiansen. She resided in several Siouxland communities prior to making Sioux City her home for the past 20-plus years. Elna was a seamstress having worked for Aalfs, Fantles and then Younkers until her retirement.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Elna's hobbies included making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, jigsaw puzzles and volunteering at her church.

Survivors include her son, Randy Christiansen and his wife, Cynthia of Sioux City; two grandsons, Bradley Christiansen and his wife, Sheena of Lincoln, Neb., and Nicholas Christiansen of Sioux City; three great-grandchildren, Serenity and Nevaeh of Lincoln, and Kai of Sioux City; one sister and her husband, Arlene and Walter Schindler of James, Iowa; as well as to 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and a nephew.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
