SIOUX CITY -- David E. Cooper, 53, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at a local hospital.

Private services will be held at a later date. Per his wishes, the body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

David was born May 15, 1957, in Des Moines, the son of Eldon and Florence (Hunter) Cooper. He graduated in 1975 from Southeast Polk High School in Des Moines. David attended the Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. He then returned to the Des Moines area and worked as a policeman in the Windsor Height area for nine years during the 1980s. David left law enforcement and began farming. He also started his own trucking company, DC Trucking.

David enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. He chopped wood for himself and others for wood burning stoves.

David is survived by his parents, Eldon and Florence Cooper of Piedmont, S.C.; his children, Jeremiah D. Cooper and Rebekah May Cooper of Johnston, Iowa; his brother, Michael "Micky" Cooper and his wife, Carolyn of Greenville, S.C.; his sister, Sandra and her husband, Dan DeLong of Cairns, Australia; his special friend for the past 10 years, Kathy Baker of Sioux City, and her children Donna and her husband, Kip Boetger, of Des Moines, Walter Baker and his wife, Alta, of Holly Ridge, N.C., Jack Baker of Sioux City and Stephanie Baker of Sioux City; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews throughout the states.
