Funeral Services Held Friday For Ida A Wendel

Funeral services for Ida A. Wendel, 84, of Moville, were held Friday February 14, 1992 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. Rev. Michael Kroona officiated. Interment was in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, under the direction of the McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville.

Janice Schnaible, soloist, sang “In The Garden” and “Beyond The Sunset.” Ruth Chartier was organist.

Casket Bearers were Messrs. Rodney, Brian, Steven and Kelly Benedix, Jeff and John Wendel, Keith and Karl Leach.

Mrs. Wendel, the former Ida A. Lindner, was born April 8, 1907 in Nesegode, Schlesien Province, Germany. She came to the United States in June 1926 and lived in Park Ridge, Illinois for about five years. She married Emil N. Wende November 23, 1930 in Chicago. The couple made their home in Union County, South Dakota for 12 years and then moved to a farm east of Moville in 1942. Mr. Wendel died October 9, 1943 in Moville. She worked as a nanny while in Illinois and helped her husband on the farm for many years. She served as a nurse’s aide at Sunrise Manor in Sioux City for a few years, retiring in 1969.

Mrs. Wendel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Woman’s group of the Church. She was a member of the Moville Garden Club and Just for Fun Club, and was an active member of the Woodbury County Farm Bureau for several years. She received her United States citizenship papers in the Spring of 1936. She then was active in the Republican Party, working many years in the county caucuses.

Mrs. Wendel died Tuesday February 11, 1992 at her home following a long illness of cancer.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Emil J. and Lois Wendel of Denison, James G and Marilyn Wendel of Stanwood, and Ray R. and Carol Wendel of Woodward; three daughters and their husbands, Katherine E. Henshaw and Alan of Sioux City, Dolores Benedix and Dale of Moville and JoAnn Leach and Joe Ray of Bossier City, Louisiana; two sisters, Elizabeth Brodmann of Gladbeck, Germany and Gertrude Lindner of Denmark; 14 grandchildren, Rodney Benedix, Steven Benedix, Lisa Hensley, Kimberly Reinhardt, Kelly Benedix, Brian Benedix, John Wendel, Sheryl Kardell , Sheila Wendel, Jeff Wendel, Karl Leach, Keith Leach, Kathy Trotto and Anne Wendel and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son in infancy; a grandson, Todd Wendel; a brother; and four sisters.

A memorial has been established in her name with the Trinity Lutheran Church.
