HORNICK, Iowa -- Jessie L. Sorenson Carr, 93, of Hornick died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Holly Springs Bible Fellowship in rural Holly Springs, Iowa, with the Rev. Jim Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Holly Springs Bible Fellowship. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Jessie was born Jan. 27, 1909, in South Dakota, the daughter of A. Tress and Lilly (Smith) Baxley. She moved with her parents to a farm in Climbing Hill, where she was raised.

She married Joe Sorenson on Jan. 8, 1930, in Onawa. The couple made their home in the Climbing Hill and Hornick area. She was a cook at the Climbing Hill School and later the Hornick School until her retirement. Mr. Sorenson died April 7, 1972. She then married Bill Carr in October 1976. He died December 1979.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Lois and Robert Morris of Hornick; five grandchildren, Janet and her husband, Gary Ronfeldt, of Schaller, Iowa, Marcia and her husband, Dan Ronfeldt, of Smithland, Iowa, Vickie and her husband, Lee Westergaard, of Sloan, Iowa, and Rick and Robin Morris, both of Hornick; 10 great-grandchildren, Kim Ronfeldt, Justin Ronfeldt and his wife, Stacy, Melissa Stamp and her husband, Thad, Jason Ronfeldt and his wife, Michelle, Myra Diaz and her husband, Riley, Marisa Morris, Kelly, David and Douglas Westergaard and Kari Steggen and was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Mindy Ronfeldt; eight great-great-grandchildren, Kayla, Tasha and Austin Ronfeldt, Brian and Lisa Stamp and Alex and Paige Ronfeldt; and a great-great-stepgranddaughter, McKenzie Melby.
