KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Ronald L. "Ronnie" Schumann, 68, of Kingsley died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by his family.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. Burial will be in Climbing Hill Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Ronald Leonard Schumann was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Midway, Iowa, the son of William and Carolyn Schumann. He grew up in the Anthon, Iowa, area, attending school there.

He married Ernene Stegeman and moved to Kingsley, where they raised their five children. He worked as a mechanic and welder for Knowles Repair in Kingsley, which later became the Pan Shop. Later, the Pan Shop became the FS Repair, where he worked for 37 years as a metal fabricator and welder. He also worked at Clark's Hardware for several years, repairing mowers and small engines. After he retired from FS Repair, he worked on mowers and small engines at his shop. His skills were highly recognized as people from the tri-state area brought small engines and mowers to him that no one else could fix. In 1982, he married DeEtte "Dee" Hageman and combined their families of nine children.

He loved to play bingo and cards whenever he could, he especially enjoyed playing at the Eagles and Boys Club.

Survivors include his wife, DeEtte "Dee" Schumann of Kingsley; children, Bill Schumann of Sioux City, Diane and Gene Rollefson of Kingsley, Bob Schumann of Sioux City, Teri Schumann of Sioux City and Brad and Anita Schumann of Sioux City; stepchildren, James and Angela Miller of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Rhonda and Jaime Snook of Houston, Texas, Renae and Scott Hoyle of Anchorage, Alaska, and Joey Miller of Sibley, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Merle and Boots Schumann of Ida Grove, Iowa; and four sisters, Gladys Baker of Mason City, Iowa, Violetta Betts of Buck Grove, Iowa, Irma and Paul Radenious of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Delvey Sterret of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Wilford, Orville, Marvin and Johnny Schumann; three brothers-in-law, Gilbert Baker, Paul Betts and Gail Sterret; and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Schumann and June Schumann.
