SIOUX CITY -- Dallas Merle Roy, 87, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at his residence after a long illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill G. Muller, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. A private family burial of the cremains will be in Westfork Township Cemetery at Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dallas was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Sioux City. He graduated from Climbing Hill High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He spent most of his life in Sioux City and the Siouxland area.

He married Vera I. Spangler on May 18, 1945, in Sioux City. Dallas worked for Swift Meat Packing Co. as a butcher from 1945 to 1984, when he retired.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Dallas enjoyed traveling. He also liked to watch Jeopardy on television. He and Vera enjoyed eating at Gus's Family Restaurant almost everyday.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Roy of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Cindy and Wayne Kurle of Omaha, Neb.; two sons, Adrian Roy and his wife, Jackie, and Rob Roy and his fiancee, Debbie Cook, all of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Mary (Ward) and Jack Dearman; and a daughter, Pam Hefner
