MOVILLE, Iowa -- Elza Fremont Michener, 99, of Moville died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, in Kingsley, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa, with James Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville.

Elza was born Oct. 19, 1906, in Chesterhill, Ohio, the son of George and Laura (Taylor) Michener. At the age of seven, his family moved to a farm outside of Luton, Iowa. The family moved again a few years later to a farm outside of Bronson, Iowa, where he attended school.

After dating for three years, he was united in marriage to Lucille Taylor in Dakota City, on June 27, 1932. The couple farmed in Lawton, Bronson and Moville for many years prior to retiring to the town of Moville. Together they raised their two sons, Ronald and Gary. Lucille passed away June 4, 2006. Elza was self-employed as a cattle and hog farmer.

He served on the Climbing Hill School board between 13 and 16 years. He had several trophies displayed on top of his china cabinet from the Easter rides for Charity. The Lawton Saddle Club would ride horses from Lawton to the Stockyards to raise money for Easter Seals. He was presented these awards for being the oldest rider in the event.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Ron and Carolyn Michener of Anthon, Iowa; two granddaughters and their husbands, Ann and Jay Hardy of Anthon and Kim and Mo Michener-Emami of Fort Collins, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Farrah, Zoya and Joa Emami; two brothers, Harry and Earl John Michener, both of California; and a sister, Ethel Anderson of South Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Taylor) Michener; a son, Gary Michener; a daughter-in-law, Janet Michener; six sisters and brothers; and his parents.

Memorials may be directed to the Moville Community Center.
