Dorothy I. Ford, 86, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Terry Templeton of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Climbing Hill Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ford was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Philip, S.D., the daughter of George M. and Clara H. (Eckert) Welfl. She graduated from Philip High School. Shortly after graduation, she moved to a farm on the Missouri River bottom in Bottom Home County, S.D.

She married Richard R. Ford on April 10, 1936, in Yankton, S.D. the couple lived in Yankton for several years, prior to moving to Sioux City in 1949. She was employed with Wincharger/Zenith Corp. for many years. Later, she retired from Bell Telephone. She had also operated a beauty salon out of her home at one time. Richard passed away on Nov. 8, 1980, in Sioux City.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Sioux City, Eagles Lodge in South Sioux City and Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by her children, Jeanette F. and her husband, Wilson Skinner of Williamsburg, Va., Richard A. Ford of North Sioux City, Shirley M. and her husband, Jerry Meyer of Climbing Hill, Iowa, and Donald J. Ford of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by twin brothers, Kenneth and Keith Welfl; and three grandchildren, Frank, Jill and Jan Randall.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Scott Ford, Troy Ford, Brent Ford, Stacy Ford, Randy Meyer and Lee Ford.
