Lewis G. Allen

Lewis G. "Red" Allen, 78, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness, while under the care of his family.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Karen Handke of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Climbing Hill Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Allen was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Dunn, N.C., the son of John G. and Flossie (Parker) Allen.

He married Delores Pistore on March 14, 1966, in Pearisburg, Va. The couple came to Sioux City in 1967. He worked for IBP until 1983, when he started his own recycling business. He retired in 1999, due to poor health.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Delores of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Johnny and Linda Allen of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sisters, Margie Griffith of Charleston, W.V., Tina Harvey of Belle, W.V., Jane Saxton of Duette, Fla., and Carolyn McClanahan of Charleston, S.C.; three brothers and their wives, Harvey and Gloria Allen of Dunn, N.C., Simon and Lacy Allen of Sunset Beach, N.C., and Larry and Dreama Allen of Belle, W.V.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Allen; and a brother, Robert Allen.

Pallbearers will be Robert Pistore, Terry Pedersen, Rob Treglia, Travis Dickherber, Todd Mallett and Steve Perera.
