4 January 2001Earl Glen Hines, 81, of Mapleton, Iowa, formerly of Smithland,Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at St Lukes Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Earl was born March 28, 1919, near Castana, Iowa, the son of Harry Solomen and Dora (Simpson) Hines. He attended school in Rodney, Iowa.
On January 11, 1939, he married Ellen Marie Corbin at Le Mars, Iowa. The couple farmed for 11 years. in the Castana-Rodney area before moving into Smithland in 1950, where they owned and operated the Mobil Gas Station until retiring in 1981. Earl also drove a school bus for over 20 years. Mrs. Hines died Oct. 4, 1992, in Sioux City.
He was a member of Smithland United Methodist Church, where he served in the board.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Karen and Jim Davis of Smithland; one son and wife, Douglas and Linda Hines of Aurelia, Iowa; five grandchildren, Todd Hines and friend, Linda Dick of Denison, Iowa, Kelly and husband Don Bielenberg, of Longmont, Co, Jill and husband, Kent Kleckner,of Ottumwa, Iowa, Kristi Huffman and friend, Tim Lane of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and Janelle and husband, Shane Prother, of Longmont, Co: eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Corbin of Smithland and Katherine Asbra of Columbia, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen a brother, Roy George; and a sister, Shirley Beal.
Services will held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2000 at United Methodist Church in Smithland,Iowa. with Pastor Karen Handke officiating.The organist was Ardith Armour and the soloist, Myron Armour, sang the selection, "In The Garden". The tape selection was "Daddy's Hands".
Casket bearers were Larry Stickney, Clayton Kulver, Bill Hagerdon, Bob Haselhoff, Arlis Larson and Tim Corbin.
Interment was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa, with arrangement by Willman Funeral Home and Cremation Service; Rodney.
