23 January 2000Mapleton, Iowa—Gerelda Elizabeth Bowman, 89, of Mapleton died Thursday, January 21, 2000, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary by St. Mary’s Guild at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7:30 p.m. all at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Bowman was born January 27, 1910, in Oto, Iowa the daughter of Charles M and Ethel P. (Barr) McGarr. She married Herry P. Lane in 1929. He died in 1945.
In 1950, she married Samuel E. Bowman. He died in 1963.
She belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton and St. Mary’s Guild, Mapleton Saddle Club, and was a state officer of the Pinto Horse Association.
She enjoyed doll collecting, ceramics and painting.
Survivors include three daughters: Pauline Shipley of Mapleton, Lucy and her husband Bill Clubine, of Mapleton and Shirley Adams of Carnesville, Ga., a son and his wife, Larry R and Loreene Lane of Omaha; nine grandsons; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister and her husband, Mary and Marce Wolterman of Mapleton and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles H. Lane; two brothers; Paul and Francis McGarr; four sisters: Maxine Kirkpatrick, Norma Jean Nance, Louise Hughes and Fanchon Sherer.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorials may be directed to the Diabetic Association American Heart Fund or the Cancer Society.
