RODNEY, Iowa -- Lowell C. Aldrich, 68, of Rodney died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at an Omaha hospital surrounded by his family.

Services will be 5:30 p.m. Sunday at United Church of Christ in Rodney, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Lowell was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Rodney, the son of Byron and Dorothy (Cleveland) Aldrich. He lived his entire life on the family farm. He attended Rodney Elementary School and graduated from Smithland High School. He was married to Pat Fitzgerald in 1954.

He loved his farm and the Loess Hills around it, where he taught his children to fish, eat oysters, hunt pheasants and find mushrooms and Easter flowers. He had a great sense of humor and was dearly loved. He was a member of United Church of Christ in Rodney.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Steve and Jane of Minneapolis, Bruce and Suzie of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tom and Resa of Cadillac, Mich.; two daughters and their husbands, Lori and Mark Storr of Zebulon, N.C., and Stacy and Zeke Meyer of Storm Lake, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Emily, Christopher, Joseph, Brock, Tove, Bobbi, Tyler, Mitch, Maggie and Rece; a sister and her husband, Gracia and Don Forney; an aunt, Hazel Cleveland; and an uncle and his wife, Jim and Vera Cleveland, who loved him like a son.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and an uncle and his wife, Franz and Millie Cleveland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
