WHITING, Iowa - Donald Ray Newman Jr., 38, of Whiting died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Newman was born Sept. 2, 1962, in Watertown, S.D., the son of Donald and Elsie (Fowler) Newman. He graduated from Carlton High School and attended Crookston University in Minnesota. He was in the U.S. Army until 1986, serving as a medic stationed in Germany, Texas and California. He attained the rank of corporal.

He married Vicky Farley on April 23, 1993, in Sioux City. He was a graduate of Gateway College of Massage Therapy. He was employed with Matney Morningside Manor, Opportunities Unlimited, Design Homes and most recently with Crossroads of Western Iowa.

He was a volunteer with Opportunities Unlimited and a Girl Scout leader. He enjoyed rafting, camping and cooking. He was an organ donor.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Amanda and Alexandrea, both at home; his parents of Smithland; two sisters, Gloria and her husband, Martin Kloster of Brookings, S.D., and Susan Oja of Cloquet, Minn.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Patty Ann; and grandparents, Ray and Eva Newman and Tom and Demis Fowler.
