27 January 1999Cecile Marie Ripple, 95, formerly of Hornick, Iowa, died Sunday, January 10, 1999 at Casa De Paz Care Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Mrs. Ripple was born July 23, 1903, at Smithland, Iowa the daughter of William and Lillian (Wickey) Johnson. She was raised in Smithland and graduated from high school there. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa and from Morningside College in Sioux City. She taught country school near Smithland and in the town of Smithland. She married Loren Lewis Ripple in 1926 in Sioux City. The couple lived in Hornick where he worked in Ripple’s grocery store in Hornick. Mr. Ripple preceded her in death,
She was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church and the former Athena Chapter #460 Order of Eastern Star at Sloan.
Survivors include one son and his wife, Willis and Mary Ripple of Sacramento California; two daughters and their husbands, Ellen and Paul Ritchie of Smithland, Iowa and Marlene and Frank Hoffman of Spencer, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Wilma Lynch of Reno, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 grandsons, Dennis Ripple and David Hoffman; 2 brothers, Jim and Harry; and a baby sister.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 1999 at the United Methodist Church, Hornick, Iowa with Pastor ED Elliott officiating. The organist was Mrs. Lael Steinhoff and the vocalist Mrs. Ed Elliott sang the selections, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Hill Called St. Calvary” and “Wind Beneath My Wings”.
Casket Bearers were Jack Steinhoff, Bill Smith, Dean Unkel, Warren Plummer, Bob Seitzinger, Jeff Hoffman and Brad Hoffman.
Interment was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa
