30 December 1996Onawa, Iowa—Lester F. McLarty, 76, of Onawa died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onawa. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. McLarty was born July 25, 1920 near Smithland, the son of James I. and Dolly H. (Christensen) McLarty. He married Bette Davis on August 4, 1941 in Worthington, Minn.
He farmed in Smithland, Oto, and Climbing Hill, Iowa areas until retiring in 1981 and moving to Onawa.
He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, a son and his wife, Robert and Lynn of Moville, Iowa; two grandsons, Kelly and Kevin McLarty; two sisters, Mary Brockman of Sioux City and Doris and her husband LeRoy Douglas of Oto, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Loyal and Phyllis of Smithland and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard, James and George.
