Sloan, Iowa- Thelma I. Withee, 62, of Sloan formerly of Smithland, Iowa died unexpectedly Monday, December 9, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Smithland, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa.

Mrs. Withee was born October 9, 1934 in Ainsworth, Neb, the only daughter Wallace and Dagma (Fredricksen) Ellis. She graduated from Ainsworth High School. She married Donald D. Withee on July 14, 1954 in Seguin, Texas. The couple lived in San Antonio, Texas, Ainsworth in 1956, they moved to Sioux City and moved to Smithland in 1972. The couple lived in Sloan the last 18 months. She was employed by Belas Hess and Sears in Sioux City for several years.

She was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Smithland and was a current member of United Church in Hornick, Iowa, she was active in the women’s groups in both churches. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Smithland and a life long Amway distributor.

Survivors include her husband of Sloan; five sons, Donald Jr. and his wife Patti of Whiting, Iowa, Robert and his wife Denise of Columbus, Neb., Michael and his wife Tonye of Deloit, Iowa, Gary of Anchorage, Alasaka and David of Sloan; her mother, Dagma Smith of Ainsworth and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; three brothers; and her step-father, William Smith.
