Joyce Aileen Weber, 84, Countryside Retirement Home, died Wednesday, May 15, 1996, at the nursing home after a brief illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church with Dr. Kenneth Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Smithland Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today with the family present 6 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Weber was born March 20, 1912, in Smithland, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Ain and Lillie Amanda (Button) Cox. She was baptized at Smithland United Methodist Church. She later moved to Rodney, Iowa and then to Sioux City and returned to Smithland. She graduated from Smithland High School in 1929.

In Feb. 7, 1934, she married Alfred Weber at her parents’ home near Smithland. She lived on and helped farm their place between Holly Springs and Smithland for 38 years. She then retired and moved to Sioux City. She joined St. John’s Evangelical Church after her marriage and then became an associate-member of St. James United Methodist Church after moving to Sioux City.

She was a member of German City Women’s Guild, St James Lydia Circle and Golden Age Card Club at Morningside Library. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Survivors include a daughter, Retha Lillie and her husband, Dick of Sioux City; two sons, Keith and his wife, Pat of Boone, N.C. and Eldon and his wife, Jeannie of Ames, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Dan and Greg Sawin, and Brad, Brian, Brent and Monte Weber.
