Oto, Iowa—Ferne Gardner, 72, of Oto, died Friday, March 1, 1996 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oto with burial in Little Sioux Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Visitation will also be 8 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the church.

Mrs. Gardner was born Nov. 16, 1923 in Elk Point, S.D., the daughter of Floyd and Lillian (Holbrook) Ferdig. She married Eli E. Gardner June 16, 1941, in Dakota City. The couple lived in Smithland, Rodney, Hornick and moved to Oto in 1979. He died Nov. 22, 1987.

Mrs. Gardner was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Oto and Leslie Seaton Unit 0666, American Legion Auxiliary of Smithland.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Larry and Bonnie of Hornick and Dennis and Tammy of Moville; two brothers, LaDean and Jan Ferdig, both of Freeport, Texas; a sister, Marie Berndt of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Scott, Stacy, Lisa, Terry, Charty, Trish, Ashton and David, and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother and three infant siblings.
