Dorothy M. Seuntjens, age 78, of Danbury died Sunday, July 30, 1995 at Battle Creek, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Danbury, Iowa, with Rev. David Hogan and Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial was in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. A rosary was held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday and a Vigil Wake Service at 7.30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Danbury.

Dorothy M. Seuntjens was born August 5, 1916, at Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn C. and Catherine (Walters) Merritt. She moved with her family to Des Moines, Iowa, where she grew up. She went to Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1940, she moved to Danbury, Iowa and taught school there and in the Denison area. On April 11, 1942, Dorothy married Leo Seuntjens at Des Moines. The couple farmed in rural Danbury until 1977, when they moved into town. She became a resident of Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa, in January of 1993.

Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury and the Rosary Society there. She was also the director of St. Mary’s Choir for a number of years. She found enjoyment in reading and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband, Leo; two daughters and their husbands, Dianne and Douglas Hill of Knoxville, Tennessee and Mary Beth and Keith Hazen of Dodge City, Kansas; a son and his wife Neal and Sharon Seuntjens of Danbury; a sister-in-law, Anita Merritt of Titusville, Florida; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Greg and his wife, Tracy Hill and their son Austin, Lucas Hill, Matt and his wife, Amy Seuntjens and their daughter, Lynsey, Pete, Charlie and Joe Seuntjens, and Aaron and Erica Hazen.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Glenn Lee Seuntjens, a grandson, Tom Seuntjens and a brother, Bob Merritt.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Matt Seuntjens, Pete Seuntjens, Charlie Seuntjens, Joe Seuntjens, Greg Hill and Aaron Hazen.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter-Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury-Mapleton.
