L. Eileen Christensen, 86, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller officiating. Following the service Thursday, the body will be cremated and private family graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Christensen was born May 11, 1916, in Monona County, Iowa, to William and Edna (Jensen) Baker. She moved with her parents to Sioux City when she was 4 years old. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in January 1935. She attended White's Business College and was employed with Kennedy and Parsons Co. until 1939.

She married Leonard C. Christensen on Feb. 25, 1939, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The couple made their home on a farm in Sergeant Bluff until March 1947, when they moved to Sioux City. A daughter, Karen Maureen was born to the couple on May 21, 1941, while living in Sergeant Bluff.

She was employed as a bookkeeper at Bixley Tire Co. for 12 years, until the company was sold. She then was employed at Terra Chemical International as an accounts payable clerk for 16 years, when she retired. After retiring from Terra, she was employed with M.C.I. for three years. Her husband, Leonard died Oct. 6, 2001, in Sioux City.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Wilson of Sioux City; a grandson and his wife, Brian J. and Christina Luther of Sioux City; a sister, Leota M. Hall of Topeka, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
