The Rev. E.D. "Mike" Pappadackis, 72, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Third Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William Skinner, retired, and the Rev. Stephen Niles of First Presbyterian Church of South Sioux City officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

The Rev. Pappadackis was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of Demetrious E. and Irene (Volicos) Pappadackis. He moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, as a child. He graduated from Storm Lake High School and was a 1952 graduate of Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. He graduated from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1955, with a master of divinity degree.

He married Jean Elizabeth Mowatt on Aug. 6, 1955, in Chicago. He was a Presbyterian minister in Wilmont and Lismore, Minn., Rockwell City, Iowa, and Third Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. After 27 years, he retired from Third Presbyterian Church in 1996. Upon his retirement, he was honored with the title of Pastor of Emeritus of Third Presbyterian Church.

He served as pulpit supply and moderator for many Presbyterian churches in Iowa and Nebraska, and moderator of Prospect Hill Presbytery committee. He served as auxiliary chaplain for the 185th Air Guard for 12 years in the 1970s and 1980s. He received the John Fisher Distinguished Service Award in 1981 from Buena Vista University. He also served as chaplain of the Women's Reformatory in Rockwell City, Iowa.

He was a member of Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, and served as chaplain several times of the Abu Bekr Shrine and the Sahib Unit. He was also a member of Prospect Hill Presbytery, Third Presbyterian Church Men's Club and sang in the church choir when he was the minister there. He enjoyed golfing and cribbage.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Elizabeth Pappadackis of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Andrea and David Kjos of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Mark and Cheryl Pappadackis of Sergeant Bluff; three grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie and Paige Pappadackis; a stepgrandchild, Brooke Riley; a brother and his wife, Gus D. and Mary Pappas of Tucson, Ariz.; and Dena and Chris Kozak of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Pappas.

Pallbearers will be Willy Lefler, Robert Holloway, Roger Winter, Walter Haltly Christopher Pappadackis, Dr. Douglas Wheelock, Sam Raphtis and Richard Raymond.
