26 January 2003Vera Popevis, 84, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil of Nativity Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
Vera Popevis was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of John and Stella (Chernosevich) Karolick. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.
She married Alfred Popevis in 1946 in the Ozarks of Arkansas. He passed away in 1983 in Sioux City. The couple owned and operated the Dairy Queen located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and Leech Avenue in Sioux City. Later, she worked at Younkers and Sioux City Stationery. Vera enjoyed shopping, knitting, crocheting and reading.
Survivors include a son, John Popevis of Sioux City; a daughter, Cheryl Popevis of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers, Alex Karolick and his wife, Jeannette of Sioux City, and Harry Karolick of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a niece and several nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Annie.
Memorials can be made in her name for a memorial to be established at a later date.
