Oran Conrad Hicks, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Hicks was born June 5, 1917, in Sioux City, the son of Baylis and Maggie (Lichty) Hicks. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident and attended Sioux City schools.

He married Evelyn Herring on April 11, 1940, in Franklin County, Pa. He was employed at the Sioux City Stockyard for Hudson-Cole for several months. He was then employed with Garrison and Abbott for 42 years as a fat cattle salesman. He retired in July 1981.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Eagles Club and Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a son and his wife, Conrad and Christine Hicks of Belington, W.V.; a daughter and her husband, Karen and David Finley of Weston, W.V.; eight grandchildren, Merllene Yorkey, Jeffrey Finley, Todd Finley, Philip Finley, Brenda Nicholson, Kara Finley, Mindy Hicks and Alex Hicks; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Paul Brewer, Jeff Finley, Todd Finley, Jim Haines, Gary Jones and James Yorkey.
