Julia Mathilda (Tilleson) Peterson, 96, of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her residence of respiratory failure due to congestive heart failure.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sierra Memorial Chapel in Riverside, with the Rev. Jeff Dietz of Harvest Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sierra Memorial Chapel Mortuary in Riverside.

Mrs. Peterson was born Oct. 23, 1906, in Menomonie, Wis. She graduated from high school.

She married Clifford Peterson, who was a shop teacher at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School for many years. He died Nov. 2, 2001, in Riverside. She had been a resident of Sioux City for 70 years. She had been a resident of Riverside for seven years. She was a homemaker for 74 years.

While living in Sioux City, she was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Golden Agers Club and Women's Circle Club. She was a member of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside. She enjoyed reading and playing the piano.

Survivors include a son, Gary Peterson of Riverside; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
