Lorna "Jean" Murphy, 68, of Sioux City passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Jean was born March 1, 1934, in Sioux City, the oldest daughter of Frank and Alice (Kellogg) Michael. She graduated from Central High School in January 1952.

She married Donald E. Murphy on May 14, 1954, in Sioux City. She worked for National Foods, Norwest Bank and retired as an administrative assistant for the Woodbury County Human Resources Department.

Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and traveling. Following her retirement, she especially enjoyed golf league, bowling and volunteer work with Whittier Elementary School.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don; their five children and spouses, Connie and Dave Aasen of Sioux City, Mike and Kathi Murphy of Sioux City, Debbie and Tim Hummel of Bloomington, Ind., Brad and Debbie Murphy of Sioux City, and Terri and Mark Abramo of Breezy Point, Minn.; a sister, Mary Ann Michael Gabrielson and her husband, Paul of Fresno, Calif.; her mother-in-law, Helen Sheets of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren, Mark, Ann and Craig Aasen, Nicole, Britt and Ben Murphy, Tim Jr. and Ryan Hummel, Sean and Tanner Murphy and Jordan, Konrad, Levi, Markie and Bryck Abramo; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Parnell and Anita Murphy and Howard "Sonny" and Cathy Murphy; a sister-in-law and her husband, Patty and Jim Carda; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her 15 grandchildren.

The family asks that memorials be sent to Hospice of Siouxland.
