SIOUX CITY -- Gerald "Jerry" F. Hutmacher, 85, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Gerald "Jerry" Francis Hutmacher was born March 26, 1924, in Sioux City, the son of Marius Anthony and Elizabeth Mary Hutmacher. He graduated from Central High School. After graduation, he moved to San Francisco, and worked in the shipyards there until entering the U.S. Navy in March 1943. He was an aviation ordinanceman and was stationed at various bases in the United States and for a time in Hawaii. Mr. Hutmacher returned from duty on March 10, 1946, and joined the Sioux City Fire Department. He also worked as a sheet metal mechanic at various businesses in the area as his second occupation.

On Oct. 15, 1947, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Frances Arlene Chamberlin. Jerry, first and foremost, was a family man, never happier than beside his wife and daughter.

He was, however, a man of many interests, fishing and hunting, and in his retirement years, golf and trailer traveling being among his favorites. He belonged to Nativity Catholic Church and was a member of the men's club there for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife, Fran of Sioux City; his daughter, Virginia and Dan Naylor of Rochester, Minn.; granddaughters, Angela and Brian Gustafson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Michelle Naylor of Houston, Texas; a grandson, Brett Naylor and Heidi Swanson of Minneapolis; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Wyatt, Trey and Keegan Gustafson; a brother, Robert Hutmacher of Sioux City; and a sister, Dorothy Dirksen of St. Paul, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Anthony, John, Paul and Bernard; and five sisters, Helen, Agnes, Florence, Pauline and Mary.
