SIOUX CITY -- Dora L. Smith, 85, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, at her residence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with Chaplain

Stacey Gerhart officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Dora was born on Dec. 9, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Jesse and Alice (Beith) Teller. She attended Central High School. In April 1944 she married Melvin Speece. On Dec. 31, 1955, she married George W. Smith. He died on Nov. 8, 1998.

Dora worked from 1956 until her retirement in 1989, with Interbake Foods. She was a member of the Bakers Union Local 433.

During the years, Dora enjoyed going to the area's horse and dog racing tracks. She was a nature enthusiast, and over the years had pet dogs or cats. She was considered the family historian and enjoyed talking about her family. Her sense of humor will be missed.

Dora is survived by two sons, Michael Speece of Sioux City and Gary Speece and his wife, Cindy of Rockford, Ill.; a daughter, Janice and her husband, Vern Marine of Jefferson, S.D.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, George Teller, Charlie Teller and Lawrence Teller; and three sisters, Edna Holt, Ora Irwin and Elizabeth Swift.
