Catherine English, 93, 1525 Douglas St., died Tuesday, July 13 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home after a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday in the Cathedral of the Epiphany. The Rev. James Quinn, nephew-in-law, the Rev. John Wymelenberg and Monsignor Louis Kollasch will con-celebrate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Mrs. English, the former Catherine Stackerl, was born Sept. 1, 1888 in Dyersville, IA and came to Sioux City as a child. She graduated from Central High School and attended Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington, DC.
She married Odil R. English on June 7, 1913 in Sioux City. He died in 1968.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany, DAR, and Lewis and Clark Historical Society.
Survivors include one one, Edward of Yankton, SD and his wife Jean, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Odill, her parents, Jacob and Abbie Stackerl, her sisters Mary Counsell, Estella Statter, Lillie Kneedler and Annie Stackerl, her brothers Arthur and Charles.
A memorial has been established in her name with the House of Mary Shrine in Yankton, SD.
