Donald & Mona (Vogt) Keller

Donald Laverne Keller was born June 23, 1921, in Correctionville, the son of Guy and Dora (Clark) Keller. He grew up in Correctionville and graduated from Correctionville High School. Mona Lou Keller was born December 7, 1923, at Butterfield, Minnesota, the daughter of David and Emma (Kintzi) Vogt. As a child she moved with her family to Pierson, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from Pierson High School, 1941. Donald and Mona were married October 13, 1944, in Tucson, Arizona. After their marriage they moved to Correctionville where they lived all their married life.

Donald served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a mechanic and navigator, serving mainly in the southeastern and southern United States, flying primarily weather reconnaissance. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked as a mechanic for many years and also for the Iowa Department of Transportation as supervisor, retiring in the early 1980’s. He then worked for the Correctionville Building Center where he continued to lend a helping hand long after he retired. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, past mater of the lodge, was a member of the Correctionville American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Abu Bekr Shrine and Shriner’s Brass Band.

Mona worked as a bookkeeper for Isbell and Warren Insurance Agencies for 28 years, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed playing cards and was involved as a local volunteer. She was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women of the church.

Don and Mona were members of the Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville.

Two children were born to them, Doug and Karla. Doug and his wife, Sue (DeRuyscher, live in Indianola, Iowa and are the parents of a daughter Erin. Karla lives in Des Moines and has one son, Colin O’Brien.

Mona passed away April 16, 1998 and Donald passed away December 31, 2002.
