Laverne Knaack, son of William and Dorothea (Bauer) Knaack was born on a farm near Correctionville, attended public school and graduated in 1936. After working in grocery stores for several years, he was called to serve his country in World War II in 1942.
Ethel, daughter of Clarence and Sadie Klingensmith, was born on a farm northeast of Pierson, attended school at Grand Meadow and graduated in 1941. After attending business school in Sioux City, she worked as secretary/bookkeeper in a grocery store and insurance agency.
Laverne and Ethel met when he returned from the service and she was working at Isbell Insurance Agency in Correctionville. They were married on February 21, 1946. They are the parents of two sons. Robert lives on a farm north of Pierson with his wife, Denise and three sons, Vernon, Lance and Andrew. Robert is a teacher at East High School in Sioux City and farms. Denise teaches at River Valley Schools. Vernon graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in May 2002 and is working at Pella Windows at Pella, Iowa. Lance is a sophomore at Iowa State University and Andrew is a senior at Kingsley-Pierson High School.
Raymond lives on a farm northwest of Correctionville with his wife, Ann and son, Kyle and daughter, Sarah. Raymond works at V-T Industries in Holstein and farms. He and Robert raise purebred Black Angus cattle. Ann is a busy stay-at-home mom who has a big garden; bottle feeds the little orphan calves and does the off jobs to be done around the farm. Kyle is a senior and Sarah a sophomore at River Valley High School.
Laverne and Ethel retired to a home in Correctionville after living several years in Wichita, Kansas. They wanted to be close to their family.
