Willard Arthur Snyder was born March 20, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was one of seven children born to John Alonzo and Doris Bessie Coonen Snyder. Willard’s sisters and brothers were Delores, Raymond, Margaret, Richard, Patricia and Rodney. Willard attended Grant elementary school, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and Central High School, graduating in 1957. Willard worked as a Sioux City Journal paper carrier at Green Gables, at the Kay Bee Clothing Store and the Robb Ross Company. He was married to Shirley Mae Anderson on July 8, 1961.

Shirley Mae Anderson was born June 5, 1942, at Onawa, Iowa. She was the eldest child of four born to Allen Adolph and Emma Dortha Castle Anderson. Her sisters and brother were Patricia, Bonnie and Roger. The Anderson family moved to Sioux City in 1942. Shirley attended Smith Elementary School, Grant Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and Central High School, graduating in 1960. Shirley was employed with the Sioux City School District as a book rebinder, with Katz Drug Store at the candy counter, and at the Wincharger Company. Shirley and Willard were married in Sioux City, Iowa.

Willard and Shirley made their home in Sioux City and were the parents of two sons. Michael Arthur was born February 16, 1962; and Douglas Wayne was born October 24, 1965.

Willard is currently employed as a Building Service Technician IV with the Sioux City Community School District. He has worked for the school district for eighteen years and currently works in the food service program.

Shirley has been employed with Hickory Farms since 1980. She was promoted to the position of assistant manager within the past year.

Michael attended Grant Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and North High School, graduating in 1980. He also attended Morningside College for one year. He has been employed by the Sioux City Community School District, Sears, Hickory Farms, Hospe Mr Music and Ardan’s. He is currently working as a stockhandler at Donnelley Marketing in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Douglas attended Grant Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and North High School, where he is in his senior year. Doug is a member of the North High School band. He is employed as a Sioux City Journal paper carrier and also works part time at Hickory Farms.

Willard’s hobby is mechanics; Shirley’s hobby is cake decorating; Michael’s hobbies are genealogy and arts and crafts; and Douglas’ hobby is stamp collecting.
