Milton and Myrtle Schmidt

Milton Marion Schmidt was born February 20, 1909, at Battle Creek, Iowa. His parents were: Simon Peter Schmidt, born October 30, 1866, at Strandelhjorn, Denmark, and passed away August 26, 1963. Milton started farming in 1930 and retired in January, 1973. To this union four children were born: Audrey, Marian, Robert, and Elaine. Karen (Svendsen) Schmidt passed away September 12, 1967.

Milton married Myrtle Lee Collison, January 13, 1973, in Skein Lutheran Church at Sloan, Iowa. Myrtle has two children:
Jack, born November 17, 1935, an attorney at Santa Barbara, California, and wife, Pat, have three children, Brad, Christine and Greg.
Marilyn Bonnel, born July 5, 1928, and her husband, Jack, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, have three children, Steve, Janie and John, and one grandchild, John Elliot Brownlee, born January 15, 1982.
Milton and Myrtle moved into their new home in Cushing, Iowa, in 1973. They are members of St John Lutheran Church of Cushing.
Audrey Ann Schmidt was born April 9, 1932, at Battle Creek, Iowa. She was married to John D Beck, son of John Beck and the late Martha Glesmann Beck. He was born January 25, 1931, at Omaha, Nebraska. Audrey started school at Battle Center country school and entered Cushing Consolidate in fourth grade. She was graduated from there in 1950, and then attended Buena Vista College at Storm Lake, Iowa, to earn a teaching certificate. She taught school at Galva, Danbury, and Mapleton, Iowa, before moving to Grand Island, Nebraska, in 1974. John started school near Omaha before moving to the Midway area; he later attended Anthon High School, Anthon, Iowa. He was engaged in farming until 1966 when he became a federal meat inspector. He is now employed at Dannebrog, St Paul, and Loup City, Nebraska. John and Audrey were married November 23, 1952, at Battle Creek. They have five children: Cynthia, Denise, Brian, Diane, and Cheryl.

Cynthia, born November 7, 1953, is employed as a federal meat inspector at Land O’Lakes at Schuyler, Nebraska. Her children are: Jennifer Means, born June 7, 1972; and Gerand Means, Jr, born January 3 1975.

Denise, born March 20, 1955, married Robert Bjorholm, July 6, 1974, at Battle Creek. She is employed at Wilson’s in Cherokee, Iowa, and Robert at United Builders in Ida Grove, Iowa. Their children are: Jill, born February 26, 1975; and Nicholas, born January 12, 1979.

Brian was born July 18, 1956, at Manning, Iowa. His children are: Michelle, born June 13, 1975; and Kristine, born September 22, 1980.

Diane was born June 20, 1959; she is employed as a production scheduler at Chief Industries in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Cheryl was born January 3, 1963, and married James Richardson, August 30, 1979, at Smith Center, Kansas. She is a desk clerk at Western Inns in Grand Island, and Jim is employed at Monfort’s. Their son is Christopher, born May 19, 1979, in Grand Island.

Marian Schmidt graduated from Cushing Consolidated in 1954. She married John S Modrell, Jr, of Battle Creek, Iowa, in August 1955. John spent four years in the US Air Force. They have two sons and one daughter. John, III, of Washta, Iowa; James of Battle Creek; and Joyce, Mrs David Johnson, also of Battle Creek. Marian and John have four grandchildren.

Robert Schmidt was born March 2, 1941, in Battle Creek, Iowa. He graduated form Cushing Consolidated School in 1959. He served in the Air Force, 1959-1962, and was stationed in Texas and California. He then came home to farm southeast of Cushing. In1968, he married Gail Woodward, who was born September 24, 1943, in Englewood, New Jersey. Her parents are Lillian Washburn Woodward and the late Arthur Woodward. She graduated from Tenafly High School, Tenafly, New Jersey, in 1961; Berkeley Secretarial School in 1963; and received her B S degree from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa, in 1967. They were married in the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, and are members there. They are parents of two children: Carrie Marie, born April 24, 1971; and Allan Arthur, born November 27, 1973.

Elaine E Schmidt was born May 27, 1947. She graduated in 1965 from Cushing and went to Personnel Training Institute in Omaha for four months that year. She married Jack L Holdren, from Baring, Missouri, on June 22, 1968, in Tacoma, Washington. They have two daughters, Tammy and Angela. Jack sells insurance for Lloyd C Keenan Agency in Omaha, Nebraska, where they make their home.
