Rudolph Henry Utesch was born August 2, 1848, in Little Parine, Schwartan, Germany. He was the son of Ludwig Utesch, born in Klein Tarin, Germany, and Clara Maria Buck Utesch, born in Gieselia Ie, Germany. Clara was born May 24, 1822, and died December 4, 1896.

Rudolph came to the United States with his mother, sister, Lena, and brother, Herman, in 1883, at the age of 35, and located near Denison, Iowa. He then moved to a farm near Anthon in the Midway vicinity.

His first marriage was to Wilhelmina Wheman. To this union one daughter, Emma Utesch Meyer, was born. After the death of his first wife, he married Louise Wheman Ossenschmidt in 1888. Louise was a sister of his first wife, and the mother of one child, Anna Ossenschmidt.

Ralph and Louise were the parents of four children: William Rudolph Utesch were the parents of four children: William Rudolph Utesch born May 3, 1889, died May 7, 1960; Clara Charlotte Utesch Hatch, born February 10, 1891, died February 22, 1961; Emil Ludwig Utesch born November 10, 1892, died 1 May 1964; and Bertha Rose Utesch Nelson born December 12, 1893.

Louise was born December 6, 1855, in Germany, and died November 28, 1900, and was buried in Battle Creek, Iowa. After the death of Louise Helena Utesch kept house for her brother and helped with the rearing of his children: Helena, known as Lena was never married; she lived in Holtstein many years.

In 1906 Rudolph married Berth Schultz Voight, who was the mother of one daughter, Minnie. To his union, one son, Harry Utesch, was born.

Later in his life me moved from the farm at Midway to Correctionville. He then purchased eighty acres of land northeast of town and lived on the acreage that is now the golf course. In 1926 he moved again into town where he resided until the time of his death in April 1, 1929. He is buried at Midway Cemetery.
