Edward Watkins
By Donna LoftusEdward George Watkins was born 19 January 1810 in New York. He married Catharine who was born 16 September 1806. They came to Illinois and then they came to Iowa in the 1860s and settled in Story County. Their children were:
1( Charles Henry who married Emily Jane;
2( John Strong who married Polly H Lakin Church;
3( Juliana Priscilla who married Roswell L Riley;
4( Abigaile Mellissa who married Baltus Dayton;
5( Nancy Amanda who married Enos E Franklin;
6( Dianthia Orrilla who married Moses A Baumgardner; and
7( George Blakely who died in infancy.
Catherine died 27 February 1855. Then Edward George married Phoebe and to this union were born:8( Joseph Edmond;
9( Eunice:
10( George Aurlentine;
11( Viola Estella; and
12( a child whose name I was unable to read on the records.
John Strong married Polly Hepsbeth Lakin Church on 3 July 1862 in Lakin’s Grove in Hamilton County. To this union were born:
1(Clara Lavinna Church Watkins who married Jacob Harding;2( Edward George, 2nd, who married Ida A Barrick, second, Addie A Rose;
3( Elmer Francis who married Lavina Brunson;
4( Marilla Elva who married William Harding;
5( Addie Adelia who died in infancy;
6( John Earl who married Rosa Blackford, second, Fanny Hughes;
7( Maude Myrtel who died in infancy;
8( Bertha Olive who married Milton Anderson.
John and Polly and their children came to Woodbury County in the 1870s-1880s. They were farmers in the Wolf Creek area.Edward George Watkins, 2nd, and Ida A Barrick’s children were:
1( John Adams who married Mary Hannah Huston;
2( Susie Bell married Hiram Hollister;
3( Samuel;
4( Inez Irene who married Carl Shultz;
Edward George, 2nd, married second to Addie A Rose, 18 September 1898, in Anthon, and to this union were born:5( Goldie May who married Emmett DeHarty;
6( Marilla Bertha who married Lew McKinney, second to Arthur Hllen.
7( H G Cleveland;
8( Clifford Cleo who married Alice k Morris Beauchene;
9( Fay Carlyle who married Gladys Austin;
10( Martha Viola who married William E Bridget;
11( Cecil E who died in infancy;
12( Lester Bodine who married Bertha E Moyse;
13( Adelbert Edmond who married Dorothy J Spencer;
14( Walter LeRoy who married Frances Kautz, second to Shirley Rock Unferth; and
15( Marvil Gwendolyn who died in infancy.
Most of these children stayed in the Siouxland area and some of the grand and great grandchildren are still here.Clifford Cleo Watkins and Alice K Morris Beauchene were married 23 August 1929 in Nebraska and their children were:
1(Lloyd Elmer Beauchene Watkins who married Della Hahn;
2( Dorthy Mae who married Forrest G Morriston;
3( George Cleo who married Betty J Holtgrew;
4( Raymond Francis who married Francis N Hagedorn Christiensen, second to Jan;
5( Donna Jean who married Edwin Jones, second William L Fuller, third to William Loftus; and
6( Melvin Fay who married Patricia J Fleming.
Clifford worked for I C Chesen and Sons for nineteen years before he moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa, to open his won salvage business. Alice worked for Iowa Master Breeders for several years before she and her husband moved. Clifford and Alice still live in Spirit Lake. Their children George Cleo and Donna Watkins Loftus still live in Sioux City as do some of their children and grandchildren.
