Grover and Helena (Johnson) Rye

Grover Wilford Rye, second child of Ole H Rye and Augusta Oline Johnosn, was born in 1892 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was Editor of the Swedish Monitor paper and later was a lineotype operator for the Sioux City Journal and the Tribune. He died in 1958. He had married Hilma Johnson who was born July 3, 1891. She still resides in Sioux City. Nine children were to this union: Gladys, Vivian, Phyllis, Winnifred, Shirley, Grover, Edward, Marjorie and Joan.

Gladys Rye, born in 1914, married Steven Sardeson in 1937. He died December 12, 1950. Tow of their children, a boy and a girl, died shortly after birth. Their other two children were sons: Donald ray, born 1948, Portland, Oregon; and Grover Lee, born 1950, Portland, Oregon. Grover is manager of Booth Fisheries in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Donald is with the U S Postal Service in Sioux City. He married Cynthia Wingfield at Sioux City, and they have three children: Stephen Andrew, born 1968; Mark William, born 1971; and Rebecca Louise, born 1972. In 1954 Gladys married George Cobb in Sioux City. George was employed at the Sioux City Stockyards. They have one daughter, Christine Ann, born in 1956, who is active in musical circles in Sioux City. She married Douglas Gude in 1980.

Vivian Annette Rey, born July 1916, married William Burr Whitaker in 1937. A son, William Burr, II, was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He married Linda Hammens in Phoenix, and they are the parents of two daughters: Carla, 1960; and Spring, 1966. Vivian married Carl Richard Dalton in 1951. Their daughter, Annette Lorraine, born 1954, married Robert Cisman. They live in Phoenix, Arizona, and are the parents of three children: Rachel Lorraine, 1975; Richard Harrison, 1978; and Rebecca, 1982.

Phyllis Lorraine Rye, born in 1920, married Howard John Steele, in 1941. Phyllis died in 1982 at El Paso, Texas. They had three children: Howard John, II, born 1944; Phyllis Annette, born in 1945, who married Dalton Powell and is the mother of Richard Keith, born 1965; and Gerald William, born in 1952.

Winnifred Augusta Rye, born March 1, 1923, is an elementary school teacher in Sioux City. She married Norman Bennett in 1941. They had five children: Linnea Jean, born 1942, Baltimore, Maryland; Norman Allen, born 1944, Sioux City, Iowa; Cora Ann, born 1952; Mary Josephine, born 1954, Sioux City; and Arch WIlford, born 1958, Sioux City. Norman married Diane De Good at Amana, Iowa, in 1967. They have two children: Michelle Diane, born 1969, For Belvoir, Virginia; and Norman Allen III, born 1971, Louisville, Kentucky. Norman II, is with the Toyota Company. Cora married Adam LeFevre in New York. They have one daughter, Tate Augusta, born in 1982. Mary Josephine is with the Iowa State Historical Society, Iowa City, Iowa.

Shirley Edna Rye, 1925-1981, married Vernon WIdner in 1944. They had two children: William Ray, born in 195, attending university in Washington State; and Verna Lea, bon in 1961, and married to Arthur Bennett in 1980. Verna and Arthur have a son, Daniel, born in 1981.

Grover Wilford Rye, II born in 1928, is a chemical engineer with the Goodyear Rubber Company, Akron, Ohio. He married Geraldine Wyant in Akron in 1953. They are the parents of two children: Susan Mildred, born 1954, and Elizabeth Ann, born 1957. Susan married Anthony Masovici in 1978 and they have a daughter, Rachel Rye Masovici, born in 1981. Elizabeth Ann is in Social Service.

Edward Elizabeth Rye, born in September, 1930, resides in Stockholm, Sweden, and is teaching music.
Marjorie Elizabeth Rye, born in 1933, is District Representative for Welcome Wagon. She married Lester Anderson, Jr, 1953. Their daughter, Jolene, was born in 1955. Jolene married Dan Kollath in 1980 in Omaha, Nebraska. Jolene works with terminally ill patients in an Omaha hospital.
Joan Linnea Rye, born in 1938, teachers in the Sioux City School system. She married Joseph Mitchell in 1959. Their two children are Cheryl Beth, born 1960, in Sioux City, and Todd Mathew, born 1964. Cheryl teaches school and married Daniel Connot in 1983. Todd is in the army in Korea.
