H Harry and Maggie R (Harrison) Richardson
By Loraine E Washburn

Herman Harry Richardson was born 15 August 1878 in West Fork Township, Woodbury County, Iowa, near Climbing Hill. He was the son of Jesse C Richardson, 23 September 1841 to 2 July 1894, buried Climbing Hill, and Anna Emily Dethlefson, 1849-1936, buried Climbing Hill. He was of a family of seven children, the youngest of them, Arthur, born 1888, is the only one still living. He is a resident at the Kingsley, Iowa, nursing home.

Harry spent his years as a farmer and was frequently called upon to act as a veterinarian in his community. He raise some livestock, including white horses, some of which were used by the Sioux City White Horse Patrol. Harry and Maggie owned two farms, one in Section 11 of Banner township, where they resided, and another in Section 10 of that same township. Harry and Maggie were married at 613 Jackson Street, Sioux City, Iowa, on 7 November 1900. Harry died, following a long illness, in a Sioux City hospital in May 1970, and is buried in Banner township cemetery, Lawton, Iowa.

Maggie Roseanna Harrison was born 23 August 1881 at Chanute, Kansas, while her parents were returning from Texas, where they had considered buying land. Maggie was raised on the Harrison farm in Section 11 of Banner township, and she and Harry lived there for a few years before moving to their own place. They were parents of two daughters who died in infancy, and one son, Louis H, born 10 December 1903, Harrison Farm, Banner township. Maggie and Harry never had any grandchildren, as Louis never married, but they served as grandparents to the brother, Oscar’s grandchildren after his death. They had many family dinners at their home, and rarely a Sunday sent by without having one to a half-dozen extra families around the dinner table. Their hospitality was extended to the neighbors in the same manner. Maggie passed away 23 June 1962 at her home. She is buried in Banner township cemetery.

Louis H Richardson spent his entire life in Section 11 of Banner township, except for a few brief vacation trips. He helped his father with the father had a threshing rig, along with Bert Harrison, and they did the neighborhood threshing. Louis was a good bowler and horseshoe player. He loved visiting and his happy disposition made him a favorite of the neighborhood children.
