Lewis and Virginia Reyman
By Virginia Reyman

Lewis Reyman was born in Cushing, Iowa, January 23, 1933, to Frank and Ethel Tuschoff Reyman. He attended Cushing Consolidated School and graduated in 1951. He enlisted in the military service and took his basic training at Camp Gordon near Augusta, Georgia. He attended signal school at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The next twelve months were spent in Korea. Upon returning home, he began farming.

Virginia Groepper, daughter of Lester and Hilda Westphal Groepper, was born September 4, 1935, in Cushing. She attended school in Cushing, a country school for several years, and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1953. After attended Wayne State Teachers College and graduating from Morningside College, she taught school in the Anthon Public Schools for several years and is currently teaching in the Eastwood Junior High.

On June 24, 1956, Lewis and Virginia were married in Cushing. They farmed south of town (on the present Jack Jepsen farm) for several years. They lived for a year on the farm where Bruce Lundt now lives before moving to their present home which has been in the Reyman family for more than eighty years.

4H has been an important part of their lives. All three children belonged to the Rock-Kee-Union Club. Many hours were spent preparing for the annual Chicken Noodle Supper which was always a big success in the community. (The men hated to admit that they actually enjoyed washing all those dishes!) Lewis and Virginia were both leaders of that club for several years. Virginia helped organize the Cushing Homemakers 4-H Club in 1973 and is still a leader of that Club. Denise was also a member of this club. Denise was a state and national record book winner in 1982 for which she received a trip to Chicago and a college scholarship.

The family belongs to St John’s Lutheran Church in Cushing.

Lewis and Virginia are the parents of three children. Dennis Lee was born October 25, 1959. After graduating form Eastwood High School in 1977, he attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. He is now farming south of Correctionville and is living on his grandparents’, the Lester Groepper’s farm. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Farmer’s Cooperative Elevator.

On December 16, 1961, David Lewis was born. He graduated from Eastwood High School in 1980 and from Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg in 1982. He worked part-time for Anfinson Farm Store and is now employed by Goodburn Dirt Construction.

Denise Louise was born April 10, 1964. She graduated from Eastwood in 1982 and attended South Dakota State University for one year. She married Randy Wright of Correctionville and they have one daughter, Jessica Louise, born October 5, 1983. Randy drives a truck for Westhoff, Inc, in Sioux City.
