Maren ‘Mary’ was born in Denmark, October 4, 1864. She married Synik Johan Hansen, December 10, 1887, in Sioux City, Iowa, by Pastor N P Gravengard. Maren died August 24, 1922, following complications from gall bladder surgery. She is buried at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Marriage Register at the Woodbury County Courthouse gives Nels J Hermansen aas Maren’s father and Marie Nielsen as her mother. They were the parents of three sons who were Jeppe, Gode and Christian and two daughters, Maren and Katherine Marie. Nothing more is known of the Hermansen family or their life in Denmark.
Christian, Maren and Katherine Marie immigrated to America, but Jeppe and Gode remamined in Denmark. Christian settled in Detroit, Michigan, where he married and has two daughters. Maren came to Sioux City and married Synik Johan ‘John’ Hansen. Katherine came to America next and resided for a time with her brother coming to Sioux City to live with Maren until her marriage to Peter Christensen. Katherine and Peter had one son, William, and one daughter, Anna. William married Elsie Sonneborn and they were the parents of one son and two daughters. Anna married Earl Graham. They had one son, Dwight, who married Patricia Clarey. They reside in Sioux City and are the parents of two daughters and two sons.
Maren’s daughter, Dorthea, thought that her mother was born in Aarhus, Denmark. There is some doubt as to this as Maren’s granddaughter, Shirley Francis (Flint) Sells has a studio photo taken of Maren which has the photographer’s name on the back of the photo and also the County of Ribe. Ribe and Aarhus are on opposite coasts of Denmark.
Maren and Johan had seven children, all born in Sioux City, Iowa. Refer to the history of Synik Johan Hansen in refernce to their children.
