Daniel Hungerford was born December 29, 1912, at Goodwin, Nebraska. He was the third child of William Louis and Mary (McKivergan) Hungerford. When he was five years old, the family moved to Stuart, Nebraska. He has an older brother, William, living at Bassett, Nebraska, and a sister, Mrs Kenneth (Margaret) Houchin at Omaha, Nebraska.

Dan graduated from Stuart High School and Wayne State Teachers College. He was a World War II veteran. He was a high school instructor and coach for thirty-five years in several towns in northwest Iowa. In his coaching career he remembers one basketball game while coaching at Hinton. They were playing Whiting at Hinton; it went six overtimes before it ended. Hinton won.

He married Ann Mulvihill. They had two children, a son, Donald, and a daughter, Diane. Donald graduated from Holstein High School and received his teaching degree from Dakota State College. He married Maria Trieshel from Bowdle, South Dakota. She also graduated from Daktoa State and teaches elementary at Hospers, Iowa. Donald teaches high school computer mathematics at Boyden-Hull. They have two children: Dana, a student at Wayne State College, and Duke, a sophomore at Boyden-Hull High School.

Diane Hungerford graduated from Hinton High School. She is a Franciscan Sister. She received her B.A. degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and her Masters form Boston College at Boston. She lives at Estherville, Iowa, and is doing Pastoral Ministry work at St Patrick’s Parish.

Daniel passed away December 19, 1980, and was buried in St Joseph’s Cemetery at Salix, Iowa
