Napoleon J Hubert
By Paul Hubert

Napoleon Joseph Hubert, son of Francis and Agloe Lacroix Hubert, was born in Versheres, Canada, August 1, 1857. He came to Salix, with his parents from Canada, December 3, 1869.

On October 3, 1880, he married Rosanna Pepin, daughter of Alfred Pepin and Lorraine Lambert. Rosanna was born March 15, 1860, Beloseil, Canada.

They moved to a farm in Section fifteen, Lakeport Township. The farm is presently being farmed by Marvin Crum. For a time, there was a lot of timber north of the farm buildings, and the Indians would come across the Missouri River from Nebraska, and camp in the timber. They would trap for furs and also trade with the settlers.

In November, 1906, Napoleon was elected county supervisor for the fifth district. He served for a period of three years.

In 1917, he retired from the farm and built a house in Salix, and engaged in the implement business for a time.

They were the parents of seven children: Mrs Raoul Huot ‘Marie’; Mrs August Remillard ‘Malvina’; Napoleon F who married Ella Robin; Laurent who married Prudence Menard; Albert who married Blendina Johnson; Vetal who married Mabel Myers; and Rene, 1905-1948.

Mr and Mrs Hubert were members of St Joseph’s Parish. Rosanna died May 18, 1935, and Napoleon J died April 6, 1944. Both are buried at Salix.
