Dennis Duane Johns, son of Delbert and Eva-Joy (Thorne) Johns, was born in Sioux City, July 3, 1948. He lived in Correctionville, Iowa, where his parents farmed until the spring of 1952 when they moved north of Hinton for three years. Dennis started school in Hinton then moved to Homer, Nebraska, for four years and returned to Hinton school in 1959. As a boy he was in Cub Scouts and 4H. He attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for Airline schooling in 1968 and first was employed by North Central then Ozark Airlines in December 1968. He was stationed at O’Hare Field in Chicago, Illinois, until he transferred to Sioux City Airport in 1971 and is still with the company.

Dennis married Lynnette Ann Carrington, born August 11, 1948, daughter of William and Helen (Schultz) Carrington, on October 6, 1968, in Peterson, Iowa. To this marriage, two children were born: Todd Michael, born May 8, 1969; and Tracy Michelle, born March 10, 1971. Both were born in Storm Lake, Iowa. They were divorced in 1975. Lynnette died May 12, 1983, from Hodgkins disease and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Petersen, Iowa.

On March 19, 1976, in Decatur, Nebraska, he married Roxann Harriet Swanson, born June 2, 1950, daughter of Harold Swanson Jr of Decatur, Nebraska and Jacqueline (Sparks) Swanson Willer of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Dennis and Roxie have two children: Heather Joy, born September 6, 1978, and attending Lawton-Bronson School; and Jacque Geneva, born July 29, 1981. In June 1983 they became guardian of Frank T Amick of Decatur, after the death of Roxie’s grandmother, Florence (Moore) Sparks Amick.

Roxie graduated from Decatur High and was employed at Iowa Beef Processors before she was married.

Dennis and Roxie purchased an acreage in rural Woodbury County in 1979 and are engaged in some farming. They are members of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
