Carl and Elsie Meyer Harrison

Carl Harrison was born 30 June 1897, Harrison farm, Banner Township, Woodbury County, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Laura (Walker) Harrison. He was schooled in Banner Township and helped on the farm as a youth. He was married 19 October 1925 in Sioux City to Elsie Meyer. They lived for a time in Section twelve of Banner Township. Carl worked as a farmer and a truck driver. He died 7 May 1933 of pneumonia, following an appendicitis operation, in Sioux City, Iowa. He is buried in Lincoln Township Cemetery, Plymouth County, Iowa.

Elsie Meyer was born 12 August 1908, Miles Center, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Sophia Meyer, who in 1917 were farming in Section five of Kedron Township. This family had moved there about 1912. Elsie was always a homemaker. After Carl’s death she lived on the Harrison farm in Section eleven, Banner Township, until she remarried 2 February 1943 to Willard Harrison, 1909-1969, son of Bert and Rozetta Harrison of Section two, Banner Township. Willard was a distant cousin of Carl. He died at Iowa City following heart surgery, and is buried in Banner Township Cemetery. Willard and Elsie farmed in Section four of Banner Township and Elsie still resides on that farm. She is a member of Bethel Lutheran Church at Lawton.

Carl and Elsie had two sons; Dwaine Burdedtte was born 6 December 1926 near Lawton, Iowa. He attended Banner Township and Lawton Schools. He served from 1944-1948 in the Navy. After his discharge he worked on construction, and on the Bert Harrison farm in Plymouth County, Iowa. He married Sylvia Crowe, 9 July 1965, in Pierre, South Dakota. Dwaine died 5 July 1965, at Winnebago, Nebraska, of a cerebral hemmorhage at age thirty-nine. He is buried in Lincoln Township Cemetery, Plymouth County. He had one son by a prior marriage, which lives on the east coast, Wayne Harrison.

Darrel Carl Harrison was born 8 July 1928 near Moville, Iowa. He attended Banner Township and Lawton Schools, graduating in 1945. He has farmed since completing his education, in Section four of Banner Township where he resides. He also farms a part of the Harrison farm in Section eleven, which he owns. Darrel was married 21 October 1949 in Sioux City to Geraldine ‘Gerri’ Wenzel, 1 September 1933, Cherokee County, Iowa, daughter of Ray Wenzel. They are members of Bethel Lutheran Church at Lawton. Darrel and Gerri have three children, Garry Dean, born 8 November 1950 in Sioux City, are married and have three children. He lives in Lincoln, Nebrraska. Susan Ann, born 15 July 1952 in Sioux City, is married to Dale Watchorn, they built a new home on Elsie Harrison’s farm, and Elsie cares for their two daughters, Cindy, 1974, and Sara, 1976, while they work. Terry L Harrison was born 16 June 1963 in Sioux City. He was married 17 November 1977 to Deanna S Fellmeier and lives and works in Sioux City. They have one son, Scott, 1978.
