Jesse was born February 17, 1900, at Emmerson Heights, Sioux City, Iowa. He was the son of Cyril Benjamin and Minnie Alice Frisbie Erskine. He had two brothers and three sisters. Two sisters still live in Sioux City, Anne Gruber and Marian Erskine. He attended schools in Iowa and Minnesota.

Jesse married Mary Lucille Menefee, June 26, 1922, in Sioux City. They did not have a family. She died April 20, 1968, and is buried at Graceland Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.

He was a member of the First Christian Church; Tyrian Lodge 508 AF & AM; Sioux City Concistory 5; and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.

For thirty years he was associated with the Erskine Display and Contracting Company. Formerly, he was employed at the Davidson Department Store for twenty years as a window trimmer.

He died December 30, 1968, and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.
