Cecil was born June 3, 1894, in Emmerson Heights, Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Cyril Benjamin and Minnie Alice Frisbie Erskine. He attended Sioux City Public schools and worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad also as Post Office Carrier. In 1917, he enlisted as First Class Private in 105 Signal Battallion. After serving in Europe and the signing of the Armistice, he was discharged and returned to Sioux City and began work for the Sioux City Fire Department where he served until his death in January of 1954.

He married Hazel Aletha Lane, August 19, 1923, at Spirit Lake, Iowa. Hazel was the daughter of Albert M and Nellie Evans Lane of Sioux City. Hazel died December 25, 1973.

They had three children: Vernon Lane, born August 14, 1925; Earl Maxwell, born March 5, 1929; and Ruth Alice, born October 18, 1936 and died March 24, 1942. All were born in Sioux City.

Vernon Lane married Katherine Briget Lingwood of Cork, Ireland, in London England, on February 20, 1946. Their children are, Michael Lane, Mary Ann, Allen Richard, and Katherine Elise.

Michael Lane was born November 22, 1946. He married Linda Marie Bentz on December 30, 1967. She was born October 14, 1948. They have one child, Shawn Michael, born April 21, 1969.

Mary Ann was born October 2, 1950. She married Brett George Highes on August 15, 1970 in Sioux City, Iowa. They have two children, Evan Brett George Vernon, born May 17, 1979 and Jessica Ann, born May 9, 1981.

Allen Richard was born March 15, 1953. He married Connie Rorris in Sioux City, Iowa. They were divorced in 1975. Then he married Debra Cook on June 6, 1982. She was born October 18, 1958.

Katherine Elise was born October 7, 1963. She has one child, Kaisa Marie Erskine, born April 29, 1982.

Maxwell Earl was born March 5, 1929 and Wilma Billie Jean Weber on December 24, 1957. She was born September 9, 1938. They had three children, Rick Jay, Cynthia Jean and Todd.

Rick Jay was born December 25, 1958, and died in a car crash July 21, 1973. He is buried in Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City.

Cynthia Jean was born February 8, 1958. She married Steven Bradley Meyer in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born June 23, 1956.

Todd was born March 16, 1962.
