Charles Joseph Daniels was born April 6, 1857, at George Inn Bisley, County of Gloucester, England, to Walter Daniels and Elizabeth Baker. His father was a butcher and an innkeeper. Charles came tot the United States at the age of 16, with his brother, Henry. The rest of the family remained in England.

Charles lived in Davenport, Iowa, where he married Hannah Roberts, September 24, 1879. She was the daughter of Edward C Roberts. She died August 21, 1922, in Davenport, Iowa. They had one child, William Charles, born December 11, 1879, in Scott County, Iowa. He died November 29, 1934, in Scott County, Iowa.

Charles moved on west to Taylor Station where he married Sarah Showalter, October 25, 1883. She was born in 1859 to John Showalter and Hannah Hadden. Sarah died March 16, 1888, near Council Bluffs, Iowa, and is buried at Fairview Cemetery near Taylor Station, Iowa. Charles and Sarah had three children: Walter Roy, born October 31, 1884, near Taylor Station, died January 15, 1948, at Smithland, Iowa; Fred Jams, born March 14, 1886, at Taylor Station, died September 28, 1962, at Westminister, California; Muriel Frances, born November 17, 1887, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, died December 10, 1956, at Pen Yan, New York.

Charles married Adella ‘Della’ Elizabeth Callahan, November 4, 1889, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Adella was born February 3, 1869, near Clinton, Iowa to John Callahan (born in Canada) and Catherine Clark (born in New York). She died April 21, 1921, and was buried at Smithland, Iowa. Charles and Adella had eight chidlren: Joseph born September 14, 1890, near Taylor Station, Iowa, and died December 29, 1962, at Long Beach, California; Anna, born December 3, 1891, near Oakland, Iowa; Frank Edward, born March 3, 1893, at Broken Bow, Nebraska, and died March 11, 1963, in Sioux City, Iowa; Daisy Helen, born October 19, 1897, near Oakland, Iowa, and died January 9, 1959, at Long Beach, California; Jessie Marie, born October 16, 1898, near Oakland, Iowa, and died March 1, 1971, at Long Beach, California; John Henry, born August 6, 1900, near Taylor Station, and died February 12, 1962, at Long Beach, California; Alvin George, born October 16, 1901, at Underwood, Iowa, and died November 19, 1972, at Sioux City, Iowa; Ruth, born October 22, 1907, at Smithland, Iowa.

Charles married Mrs Lillian Cook, December 27, 1923, at Onawa, Iowa. She was born November 2, 1868, in Detroit, Iowa, to W F Andrews and Mary Reed. Lillian died May 2, 1937, at Smithland, Iowa. She is buried in the Smithland Cemetery.

Charles moved to California where he died December 27, 1927, at the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 21 days. He was living at his daughter’s home, Anna Lynn of Gilmore, California. Many of the descendants of Charles J Daniels are living in Woodbury County, Iowa, today.
